Well, before I start with this review, let me just say in advance that I'm not a huge fan of wordgames such as Scrabble, Upwords, Boggle, ect. Don't get me wrong, I like learning new things, and using my “grey matter” but I have over the years lost my fondness for that type of game.

Now that that's out of the way, let’s begin. Take your basic word game, as mentioned above, and put it into a blender with any strategy based land grab game like Risk, and you have the makings of Quarrel. You are given a mishmash of letters. Each letter is given a certain numerical point value, you must then form words from these letters with the goal of getting the highest numerical point score at the end of a round. If you win the point war you win the round, and depending if you are the attacking force, you win your opponents land. If you are a defender your opponents forces are mostly wiped out on the land which he attacked you from. Randomly you do manage to capture some of your opponents forces which then fight for you.

This game was kind of ‘meh’... for me in single player at least, as I said above I've grown bored with word games over the years. But surprisingly with a group of friends, and a few friendly drinks/verbal jabs at one another this game made for some good laughs. All this being said I still grew bored with it even with friends involved and couldn't find myself wanting to give it more than a 6/10.

Best Bits

- Interaction with friends and family makes for some good laughs.
Worst Bits

- Some of the computer AI players in single player are extremely hard, and if you've gotten bored with word games as I have, the strategy twist just isn't enough to keep you wanting to play it.
